Institution Notes:

The Cork School of Music was founded in 1878 and has been a constituent school of Cork’s Institute of Technology (CIT) since 1993. A new purpose-built home for the Cork School of Music opened in September 2007, and houses the 300-seat Curtis Auditorium. Other facilities include several fine performing spaces as well as well-equipped recording studios and audio laboratory. There is a large collection of keyboard and orchestral instruments.

The Cork School of Music is the only institution in Europe to have received European Suzuki Association recognition for its Suzuki teacher-trainer course component. Students have access to a fast-track referral system of medical specialists who may be consulted on health problems endemic to musicians. the School of Music provides Suzuki-based violin and cello tuition to children through the CIT Cork School of Music Scheme.
