Institution Notes:

The University was founded in 1837, the first university in the newly-established Greek State. The Department of Music Studies is divided into three sectors:

• Historical and Systematic Musicology.

• Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology.

• Sound technology, Music Pedagogy and Byzantine Musicology.

There are two special laboratories: Laboratory for Music Technology, which includes a recording studio, and a Laboratory for Ethnomusicology and Cultural Performance.
