Musicianship classes for performers, teachers and students.
Institution Notes:
The Centre was established in 1992. It receives no funding from any public bodies and relies on donations and grants. While the Centre does not offer full-time professional music training it organises children’s classes (from age 2) and offers specialised musicianship classes for performers, teachers and students using the relative sol-fa system advocated by Guido d’Arezzo, John Curwen, Zoltan Kodály and more recently the Colourstring teaching method. The program includes history, analysis and performance skills.
Five-day residential summer courses are also held, with a certificate issued to those attending the program. There is a program using the Sary Method, a group of exercises and studies to develop appreciation and skills partly for contemporary music, and partly for music as part of life. The courses may bear credit towards the ATCL (Music Education) and LTCL (Music Education) diplomas of Trinity College of Music, London.
